Question by Stu C: How convenient is it for solar eclipses that the sun and moon have the same apparent size?
It seems that in a total solar eclipse... the moon covers the sun almost perfectly.
Is there any reason for this or is it just by chance? How close are they really in apparent size?

JULY 1, 2011: SIRIUS ECLIPSE, NEW MOON Rudra = ShivaEclipse in Nakshatra Ardra, located in Orion's Belt. The Moon is between the sun and the earth in a solar eclipse. The Sun and the Moon will be 15 degrees along the Gemini constellation of Orion. Ardra is the nakshatra that rules that part of the sky between 6.40-20.00 degrees of Gemini. Ardra is home to the famous stars Betelgeuse and Sirius. The myth associated with Ardra is that the demon Taraka practiced extreme discipline in order to gain the gift of undefeatable power and receive. Isvatna shakti : the power to make gains through great effort. Once achieved, Taraka began to abuse the power. Ardra is a reflection of lack of gratitude and abuse of power. Ardra is connected to hunters, and is the lord of wild animals. It can be violent. Sirius In Vedic Myth: The oldest book of the Vedas that we have is the Rig-Veda; it is the oldest known document in any indo European language. Vedic wisdom was an oral tradition, and writings always speak of a time much older than the written piece. One of the first major Gods of creation is Prajapati, is also the constellation Orion. Prajapati has a relationship with the dawn.As we see in these deep myths there is like all time on the earth plane, all sorts of sorted and dysfunctional relationships. In this case, the dawn is also his daughter, thus is incestuous. The story goes that Dawn took the form of a doe, and Prajapati took the form of a stag, which he used to seduce her.The other Gods did judge in disapproval. They enlisted the God of storms and thunder, Lord Rudra, to shoot an arrow thru the stag. Sirius, one of the brightest stars in the sky, is believed to be one of Orions hunting dogs that shot the arrow. The preceding nakshatra, Rohini, is the star Aldeberan, and represents the female deer in the hunt. The three stars in a row, which is how we find the constellation, is the arrow that pierced Prajapati. We know these 3 stars as Orion

Solar power is quickly becoming a suitable renewable source of energy which many people are adopting. Lots of homes and businesses all over the country already have solar panels. Many people think that solar power is a very new invention, however actually it has been around for over 100 years! It's amazing that it's taken so long to catch on.It was developed by a Russian scientist way back in 1838, he used this to create a solar powered boat. Solar engines were developed further, however with the advent of the internal combustion engine people were less impressed with a solar boat. A boat could get more power from fossil fuel, rather than solar power.Solar powered boats didn't really do much until about the 1980's when it gained much more attention. In the 80's solar power was normally only used for competition and races rather than creating something everyone could benefit from. There wasn't much research going into creating a large solar powered boat capable of carrying lots of people.Total Power Versus Partial PowerFew people would be looking at powering their whole boat on nothing more than solar power, for a start this would make it difficult to use at night. Many boats are starting to use solar panels to provide power to domestic appliances such as the oven, refrigerator and lighting. Many boating stores sell kits to add partial solar power to your boat relatively easily. Most of these kits contain everything that you could possibly need, including solar panels, wires and any additional equipment. There are a few people that are looking for ways to power their whole boat by solar power rather than having to use a diesel engine. The arguments for such a technology are that it's completely environmentally friendly because there is no pollution caused by using solar panels. Solar powered boats are also very quiet, almost silent whereas diesel boats can be extremely noisy. This can create a lot of unwanted noise pollution.Existing Boats with Solar PowerYou can actually buy some commercial and personal boats that do run off solar power. However these types of boat are not really suitable for long ocean going travel. These are only suitable for fairly small trips, mainly in rivers, lakes and canals. Solar powered boats are generally not strong enough to use on the sea, at the moment a sail boat is more powerful than a solar boat. This is the main reason why solar powered boats are not normally used on the sea for long crossings, they are only suitable for small trips. This doesn't mean to say that solar powered boats won't become more powerful in the near future. Technology is improving every single day. In perhaps 20 years we could have viable ocean going solar powered boats which

Q&A: What Does Solar and Lunar Eclipse mean?
Question by ツ.: What Does Solar and Lunar Eclipse mean?
Helloooo =) This is what I got for a definition:
-- the obscuration of the light of the moon by the intervention of the earth between it and the sun (lunar eclipse) or the obscuration of the light of the sun by the intervention of the moon between it and a point on the earth (solar eclipse).
but seriously I don't understand that at all and I have to explain my diagram for a SCIENCE PROJECT and I need help so it'll be so sweet if u guys can answer fast =) THANKS LOVES xD
Best answer:
Answer by StephanieA lunar eclipse is when the moon is completely in the Earth's shadow so it looks like it's completely gone. A solar eclipse is when the moon is blocking the sun's rays to the Earth, casting a shadow onto a part of the Earth. In a solar eclipse only a portion of the Earth will see it. There are some diagrams here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_eclipse

Libya - A Total Eclipse - An Intergenerational Travel Adventure
by MeRyan
Libya - A Total Eclipse - An Intergenerational Travel Adventure
With Libya in the news again I've been thinking about my trip there in 2006 and how my experience was enhanced by the kindness of ordinary people. Maybe I got special treatment -- my travel buddy was my 9-year-old grandson and I'll go on record to say that there could not be a better duo! A grandma and a cute kid will open doors the world over.I'm a solar observer and the golden grail is a total solar eclipse. The eclipse of March 29th 2006 path of Totality covered a swath of the North Africa, and Libya was forecast to get around four minutes of totality. Hog heaven.I signed up for an eclipse tour sponsored by Sky and Telescope Magazine but when I saw the singles supplement cost I had second thoughts; in casual after dinner talk with my daughter and son-in-law I broached the possibility of taking Ben. Their response was a heartening "we trust you and what an awesome experience for him". It was an awesome experience for both of us.Ben and I flew out Tucson to Heathrow via BA (direct overnight flight) and despite ample time to make our connecting flight to Milan, horrendous lines at Terminal 4 security meant we missed the connection and did not arrive in Milan until 10 p.m. Six weeks ago, another negative experience at Heathrow served to reaffirm my resolve to avoid Heathrow if at all possible. A hair-raising taxi ride to our hotel -- our driver seemed intent on overtaking anything that moved. Always ask an Italian taxi driver to show you his tariff card prior to getting in the cab and avoid surprises at the end of the ride. Set routes such as airports to hotels have a government approved and enforced tariff.I'd promised Ben that his first night in Italy he could eat pasta and gelato! He held me to that so midnight found us sitting at sidewalk cafe, the Duomo in clear view and this child chowing down on a massive plate of pasta and sausage. He took his gelato to go and we strolled the Duomo Plaza much like seasoned Italians. What fun.We had to get to Genoa by 4:00p.m. where we were to meet up with our group and the Italian Cruise ship. A quick Internet search in the hotel lobby and I figured the 2:00p.m train would be perfect timing. Italian trains can be a great bargain. Think of all the possible discounts (group, mid day travel) and ask! For Ben and I it was a senior fare and a child fare. Not offered at the ticket window but once I asked, no problem and the discount was around 35% over regular fare. We spent the morning in Milan visiting the Ferrari shop -- kid friendly and what boy hasn't heard of a Ferrari. The salesman was taken by Ben's enthusiasm and gave him a baseball cap with the Ferrari logo - I
Can there be a total solar eclipse in Ohio?
by andreavallejos
Question by freowww: Can there be a total solar eclipse in Ohio?
My dad and I are arguing about this. He says that with the Earth's tilt that we would be able to see a total eclipse, but I thought that you could only see a total eclipse at the equator, or near it.
Best answer:
Answer by cyswxmanYou can see a lunar eclipse anytime the Moon is in the sky (and clouds are not in the way). Thus it depends on what part of the Earth is facing the Moon when the eclipse occurs.
What do you think? Answer below!
A series of images of the May eclipse as viewed from Ohio, USA. Ohio experienced only a partial eclipse at sunset.
