Capricorn January 2011Mom and Dad will be announcing their divorce on January 4th, because Mom moved in with her new wrestler boyfriend. And on January 7th, Dad will be arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine. On January 12th, you will make a visit to the adoption agency, and on the 13th, they will let you bring your new parents home. Your new parents turn out to be too much trouble (what, with all the house training!), so you return them for a partial refund on January 20th.Aquarius January 2011You will meet this really hot Libra on January 4th, and by the 7th, they will have spent all of your lottery winnings and moved on to a Sagittarius. Then, your Gemini ex will break into your home and steal your collection of beanie bears on January 10th. The cops will arrest your ex on January 12th, and on January 17th that Libra will get arrested running naked through a grocery store. And, they said those little dolls and pins wouldn't work. (wink)Pisces January 2011A Taurus coworker will be inviting you to the party of the century on January 4th, and there you will experience love at first sight. She has long hair and beautiful, round, brown eyes. She is a 3 year old border collie named Molly. And, the funny thing is... that Taurus won't even notice that the dog is missing. Start saving your money, because there is going to be a big ass Groundhog's Day party at Sturgis. Molly just loves chasing Groundhogs!Aries January 2011Run, run, run little Aries. Most of this month I see you running and running. Then on January 22nd you will reach your final destination. Yes... Its the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Too bad that rainbow had to land on Karma's outhouse. Don't forget to bring a shovel.Taurus January 2011Your Solar Eclipse party on January 4th is going to be THE party of the year! The whole town is going to show up, even a few celebrities. And... they will all have their cell phones handy when you decide to jump in the pool naked. Mom will see the pictures on Facebook on the 13th, and you will be checking back into rehab on the 18th. Dad will come and visit on the 23rd, and the electro-shock therapy will begin on the 31st. But... it really was a GREAT party!Gemini January 2011Get out the "I'm sorry" t-shirt, because you will be spending the first 16 days of this month making amends for ALL the fun you had last month. Your EPT test will come up positive January 16th, but you will find out on the 17th that it was just a false alarm. That tea that Karma gave you for Christmas was

BANGKOK – A swath starting in India and crossing Shanghai to southern Japan will be plunged into darkness for about five minutes Wednesday in the longest total solar eclipse that will happen this century.

Japan, which hasn't seen a total eclipse for 46 years, is celebrating with fireworks. An astrologer in Myanmar has warned the eclipse is a sign of impending chaos. In India, some pregnant women have been told to stay indoors to follow a centuries-old tradition of avoiding the sun's invisible rays.

The eclipse will appear first at dawn in India's Gulf of Khambhat just north of the metropolis of Mumbai.

It will move east across India, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China before hitting the Pacific. The eclipse will cross some southern Japanese islands and be last visible from land at Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific nation of Kiribati. Elsewhere, a partial eclipse will be visible in much of Asia.

For astronomers, it will be a chance for a prolonged view of the sun's corona, a white ring 600,000 miles (1 million kilometers) from the sun's surface. The previous total eclipse, in August 2008, was two minutes and 27 seconds. This one will last 6 minutes and 39 seconds at its maximum point.

Solar scientist Lucie Green is aboard an American cruise ship heading for that point near the Japanese island of Iwo Jima, where the axis of the moon's shadow will pass closest to earth.

Passengers paid $ 2,599 to $ 3,643 for the cruise run by Mayhugh Travel Inc., a California company that specializes in astronomy vacations, according to the company's Web site.

"The corona has a temperature of 2 million degrees but we don't know why it is so hot," said Green of University College London. "What we are going to look for are waves in the corona. ... The waves might be producing the energy that heats the corona. That would mean we understand another piece of the science of the sun."

Scientists are hoping data from the eclipse will help explain solar flares and other structures of the sun and why they erupt, said Alphonse C. Sterling, a NASA astrophysicist who will be following the eclipse in China.

Man has been recording solar eclipses for 4,000 years, and even today they inspire a combination of fear, fascination and wonder.

One astrologer in Myanmar, also known as Burma, predicted in a magazine that the eclipse would trigger wars, instability and natural disasters for the next several months.

In India, hundreds of scientists have started arriving in the village of Taregna in Bihar state, where they hope to avoid

The Eclipse

The Eclipse

Viewing a solar eclipse, total or partial, is no doubt an exciting event. Most children study eclipses, and seeing one will definitely help them understand and appreciate the topic a lot more. You don't have to book tickets to Libya in enthusiasm, but if the eclipse will be visible from your city, do make it a point to show it to your children. There are certain superstitions associated with eclipses in the Indian culture. Here are some of them.PregnancyA very prominent myth states that a pregnant woman should not view the eclipse, nor should she step out in the sun during an eclipse. As a result, thousands of pregnant women in India have been warned to stay home between the hours of 4:00 to 6:30. Some 'pandits' go a step further and advise the women to lie down and rest during this period. It is said that if a woman steps out during an eclipse, her child will be born with marks all over his body.A pregnant woman should also not hold a pair of scissors, a pen, keys or any sharp object in her hand during an eclipse, because chances are that her child will be born with a cleft lip. Some pandits have stated that husbands too should do the same, and that they too should not handle any sharp objects or a pen for these hours, and it would be best if they returned home and rested for a few hours with their wives. After all, no one wants to take a chance with their unborn baby!Other beliefsMany people believe that during an eclipse, the earth is plunged into darkness, which is a negative force. As a result, one must pray for the duration of the eclipse, and take a bath afterwards. Offerings are made to the deity, and donations are made to the poor and needy. Precautions that should be taken when viewing an eclipse include:GlassesNo one should view the eclipse with the naked eye. This is because the reduced lighting in the sky caused due to the eclipse, causes the pupils to dilate. In addition, the remaining portion of the sun that is visible, is extremely strong. As a result, our eyes absorb a large amount of UV radiation if we look directly at the eclipse. This can cause permanent eye damage, and even blindness. If you want your child to get a safe view of the eclipse, you could get him eclipse glasses. These are extremely inexpensive, so there's really no reason to think twice.FiltersAnother way to view the eclipse is through filters, attached to a telescope. It is NOT safe to view the eclipse through sunglasses, binoculars, a telescope without a filter, or even through a camera. People often believe that it is safe to view the eclipse's reflection in the water. Carry a bowl with you, and fill it with water or oil. You can then view the eclipse in your little 'mirror'.Total EclipseThe only time one can view the eclipse with

Libya - A Total Eclipse - An Intergenerational Travel Adventure

Libya - A Total Eclipse - An Intergenerational Travel Adventure

With Libya in the news again I've been thinking about my trip there in 2006 and how my experience was enhanced by the kindness of ordinary people. Maybe I got special treatment -- my travel buddy was my 9-year-old grandson and I'll go on record to say that there could not be a better duo! A grandma and a cute kid will open doors the world over.I'm a solar observer and the golden grail is a total solar eclipse. The eclipse of March 29th 2006 path of Totality covered a swath of the North Africa, and Libya was forecast to get around four minutes of totality. Hog heaven.I signed up for an eclipse tour sponsored by Sky and Telescope Magazine but when I saw the singles supplement cost I had second thoughts; in casual after dinner talk with my daughter and son-in-law I broached the possibility of taking Ben. Their response was a heartening "we trust you and what an awesome experience for him". It was an awesome experience for both of us.Ben and I flew out Tucson to Heathrow via BA (direct overnight flight) and despite ample time to make our connecting flight to Milan, horrendous lines at Terminal 4 security meant we missed the connection and did not arrive in Milan until 10 p.m. Six weeks ago, another negative experience at Heathrow served to reaffirm my resolve to avoid Heathrow if at all possible. A hair-raising taxi ride to our hotel -- our driver seemed intent on overtaking anything that moved. Always ask an Italian taxi driver to show you his tariff card prior to getting in the cab and avoid surprises at the end of the ride. Set routes such as airports to hotels have a government approved and enforced tariff.I'd promised Ben that his first night in Italy he could eat pasta and gelato! He held me to that so midnight found us sitting at sidewalk cafe, the Duomo in clear view and this child chowing down on a massive plate of pasta and sausage. He took his gelato to go and we strolled the Duomo Plaza much like seasoned Italians. What fun.We had to get to Genoa by 4:00p.m. where we were to meet up with our group and the Italian Cruise ship. A quick Internet search in the hotel lobby and I figured the 2:00p.m train would be perfect timing. Italian trains can be a great bargain. Think of all the possible discounts (group, mid day travel) and ask! For Ben and I it was a senior fare and a child fare. Not offered at the ticket window but once I asked, no problem and the discount was around 35% over regular fare. We spent the morning in Milan visiting the Ferrari shop -- kid friendly and what boy hasn't heard of a Ferrari. The salesman was taken by Ben's enthusiasm and gave him a baseball cap with the Ferrari logo

Answer by nwohiosteveYou could try the eclipse calculator..

What do you think? Answer below!

What causes the phases of the moon? The common incorrect answer is the shadow of the Earth. The phases of the moon are actually just a result of our perception of the moon's half-illuminated surface. When the moon does pass through Earth's shadow the result is a lunar eclipse. This can be spectacular as the moon turns a deep shade of red.
