This is the recording of the live video chat hangout I did during the May 20, 2012 solar eclipse. We had a live video feed from a telescope, and several astronomers on hand to discuss it. Due to a few issues, it doesn't really start until 17:23 in, so start there!

Solar Pool Rings
Looking to swim in your backyard in hot water temperature? An innovative product like Solar Pool Rings are certainly a must try if you want to soak in the enormous heat of your inflatable pool. It certainly comes in a lower price, yet good enough to generate enormous heat in your pool in no time. These very light disks are made up of transparent plastic and minimize water loss.
It has been confirmed that about 21,000 BTUs (British Thermal Units) of heat are created by each of these Solar Pool Rings which is enough to back up the amazing power of each ring to retain this much heat in the water.
The nighttime air acts as an insulator of heat so that it will stay until the following morning. These have magnets that enhance visibility and minimize resistance in your pool. On the front side, the ring is transparent in view while behind it, it is colored blue, so as to match the water and the swimming pools’ ambience.
Before you’ll use them, you have to inflate these Solar Pool Rings first. What’s amazing about these rings is that they create a raft-like formation, which eliminates any chance of water evaporating out of the pool.
Mostly, the magnets do the work which makes this formation possible. Usually, about 70-80% of the pool must be placed with these rings for optimum effectiveness of the product. The number of rings depends on how small or big your pool is. Almost any types of pools, inflatable or below-ground, chlorinated or not, are suitable for these pool rings.
Pool heating is a very good solar application. The systems are simple and relatively inexpensive. Pool systems usually use simple, low cost, unglazed plastic collectors. The pool itself is the thermal storage for the system, and the pump you already use for filtering pool water will also circulate water through the solar collectors.
Maintaining these solar pool rings isn’t really that intricate. By just brushing it with sponge while adding a small amount of vinegar solution, your product will be ready for the next use.
It’s important not to expose them to extreme heat, so temperatures are maintained to a lower normal range if possible. It’s one way to keep it going in cleaning up your pool ensuring you a healthier swimming environment for the long run.

June 15th, 2011, Total Solar Eclipse?
Question by Black Angel: June 15th, 2011, Total Solar Eclipse?
I know when the solar eclipse is going to happen(date-wise) but I don't know the time or how long it will be, I am 16 and this is the first total eclipse that i am really going out of my way to see, so i want it to be perfect, because the next one is december 10, I live in the usa, Missouri to be more specific, so can I see this total eclipse or am I not in the right position on the earth to view it, since it's daylight savings time I'm guessing the sun sets around 7:10-15 because for the last week its been in between those times so I'm guessing it will be the same Summer time in June. But I'm not so sure about that either, anyways, am I still going to be able to see the eclipse, if so what time will it be, or will I just have to pay attention and find out?

The Phoenix is an example of the staying power of symbols of that time through today. Here is an overview of its use and symbolism in ancient Greece. The Role of the Phoenix In Ancient GreeceIn Greece history, there are many different figures that play important roles. At the top of these creatures spoken of in Greek writings are the gods and goddesses, who live on Mount Olympus and oversee many aspects of everyday life. Then there are the creatures, beasts and mortals that fill out the rest of the roles in the myths. One of these creatures is the phoenix, a most famous bird. The phoenix is a mystical firebird that is seen in many cultures, not just Greek society. The originating culture that started the myth of the phoenix is the ancient Egyptian culture - and all other myths regarding the phoenix seem to have sprung from this one. The phoenix is a sacred creature, a firebird that is said to live for 500 (or 1461) years, depending on the specific culture. It is colored crimson and gold, and is much larger than other birds. At the end of its life span, the phoenix, Greek bird of regeneration, is said to build a nest of cinnamon sticks, and light them on fire; consequently, both the nest and the bird burn to ashes. A new baby phoenix rises from these ashes, and embalms and stores the ashes of the old phoenix in an egg of myrrh. This egg is then deposited in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (Greek for the "city of the sun"). The phoenix can also regenerate parts of its body when wounded, further continuing the properties of regeneration and rebirth. The Egyptians closely associated the phoenix with fire and the sun, and he was often seen with the sun god Ra. The Greeks adopted the phoenix from the Egyptians, first using their term for the bird, bennu, and then adapting their word for the color crimson (and the name of a city) Phoenicia, into the name phoenix for the bird. They associated the bird with their sun-god, Apollo, and said that the bird resided in Arabia next to a well, where it bathed and sang. The Romans also continued the tradition of the phoenix - they changed the image of the bird to look more like a peacock or eagle. While the Greeks were not the first culture to have the phoenix featured in their myths, they were also not the last. The Romans, later Greeks and even Russians all revered this bird. Hypothesized to represent either a true bird that lived on hot salt flats (said to be to hot to survive on) or the total eclipse of the sun, the phoenix is a major part

Millions of people across Asia were watching the sky as a rare 'ring of fire' eclipse crossed their skies. A 'ring of fire', or annular eclipse, appears when the Moon is further away and does not prevent all sunlight from getting through. During an annular eclipse, as the Moon aligns with the Sun, it appears as if there is a black hole in the middle of a burning disc -- its name comes from annulus, which means 'ring' in Latin. This time, the eclipse started on Sunday night (GMT) in China and Japan, and over the next four hours will traveled more than 10000 km across the Pacific Ocean and onto the United States. But only those lucky enough to be in the 300-kilometer-wide corridor were be able to observe the eclipse. On average there are about four annular eclipses every five years. But they are always in different places.
