generasi-khairol.blogspot.com Total Solar Eclipse-the longest in 2009:Millions of people in Asia will see the longest total solar eclipse this century on Wednesday as swaths of India and China are plunged into darkness. Scores of amateur stargazers and scientists will travel long distances for the eclipse, which will last for about five minutes. The eclipse will first appear in the Gulf of Khambhat just north of Mumbai. It will move east across India, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China before hitting the Pacific. The eclipse will cross some southern Japanese islands and will last be visible from land at Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific nation of Kiribati. Elsewhere, a partial eclipse will be visible across much of Asia. The previous total eclipse, in August 2008, lasted two minutes and 27 seconds. This one will last six minutes and 39 seconds at its maximum point. Alphonse Sterling, a Nasa astrophysicist who will be following the eclipse from China, scientists are hoping data from the eclipse will help explain solar flares and other structures of the sun and why they erupt. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from the Earth. At least two and up to five solar eclipses can occur each year on Earth, with between zero and two of them being total eclipses.[1] Total solar eclipses are ...

On Sunday, 11 July 2010 , a Total Eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses Earth's southern Hemisphere. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow crosses the South Pacific Ocean where it makes no landfall except for Mangaia (Cook Islands) and Easter Island (Isla de Pascua). The path of totality ends just after reaching southern Chile and Argentina. The Moon's penumbral shadow produces a partial eclipse visible from a much larger region covering the South Pacific and southern South America. As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the Moon fully or partially covers the Sun as viewed from some location on Earth. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth. At least two, and up to five, solar eclipses occur each year; no more than two can be total eclipses.Total solar eclipses are nevertheless rare at any particular location because totality exists only along a narrow path traced by the Moon's umbra. A total solar eclipse is a natural phenomenon. Nevertheless, in ancient times, and in some cultures today, solar eclipses have been attributed to supernatural causes or regarded as bad omens. A total solar eclipse can be frightening to people who are unaware of their astronomical explanation, as the Sun seems to disappear in the middle of the day and the sky darkens in a matter of minutes. There are four types of solar eclipses: 1- A ...

New addition to my solar system videos. Virtually everything you'd want to know about the rings of Saturn. It's one of the solar system's most awe-inspiring features but yet it's short-lived. Saturn's rings are young but in a few million years that will have changed and it's ring system will be more like Jupiter's, one tiny ring orbiting the planet. Q&A: When is the best time to see the lunar eclipse in Michigan?

Question by Fe: When is the best time to see the lunar eclipse in Michigan?
I heard there was a lunar eclipse today.. but I'm not sure when the best time to see it is.. advice?

Best answer:
Answer by L_H Qutub(Retired)Astronomy lovers are hoping for clear skies tonight to see the first total eclipse of the moon visible from West Michigan in three years.

The moon will begin slipping into the earth's shadow at 1:30 a.m. and become immersed in darkness at 2:41 a.m., leaving only a coppery glow that will last about an hour, according to David L. DeBruyn, curator emeritus of the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium a the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Tuesday's eclipse is also special because it occurs with the moon almost as high in the sky as it can go.

West Michigan won't get another lunar eclipse opportunity until April 2014, DeBruyn said.
