People have long held great fear for eclipses, may it be a solar or lunar eclipse, for they have been regarded as being the omens of evil. Likewise in astrology, eclipses falling juxtaposed or in opposition to a natal planet have been associated with the potential for all sorts of catastrophes. It has the effect of overshadowing whatever planet or angle or zodiac signs of the horoscopes it come into contact with. What is an eclipse?An eclipse is a New or Full Moon that takes place near the Moons Nodes. The moon's node is the point where the path of both the sun and moon intersect. When the Moon and Sun are so close to the Nodes, that is the moon is within approximately 10 degrees of its node, they will become aligned perfectly enough with the Earth to cast a shadow.During a Solar eclipse, the Moon casts a shadow on the Earth and both sun and moon occupy the same degree of the zodiac sign while during a Lunar eclipse, the Earth casts a shadow on the Moon and the sun and moon are in opposition to one another.Importance of an EclipseThe eclipse cycle occurs repeatedly approximately every 18 years when it will occur in the same sign of the zodiac and is carried forward by approximately 10 degrees. A lunar eclipse is seen when the Earth passes between the Sun and our Moon. Is the size and positioning of the Earth between those two bodies sufficient enough to also block the Sun completely from the Moon's view, or would a moon resident see only a partial eclipse (or "black hole sun")?

Answer by DLMThe earth is certainly large enough to block out the entire sun as viewed from the moon... but because the earth and moon have slightly different inclinations, some of these eclipses would be viewed as "partial" fromthe moon, as the earth might only graze, say, the southern or norther portion of the disc of the sun.
There would be no annular eclipses of the sun as seen from the moon.

February 6 and February 20, 2008Eclipses usually come in twos, a solar and a lunar, but occasionally we will get three in a row. We have 2 sets of 2 eclipses coming in 2008, 2 in February and 2 more in August. We've had eclipses bouncing around in Virgo and Pisces for almost the past 2 years. We have one more on February 20, and then Virgo, Pisces, you are done with changes for about 8 years. This year it will be Leo and Aquarius living through the dynamic process.Eclipses bring changes good and bad. Solar eclipses are usually new beginnings, and Lunar eclipses represent endings. Where these eclipses occur on our natal charts tell us how they will affect us personally. An eclipse is about 10 times more powerful than a full moon or a new moon. So, if you have a tendency to go ballistic on the full moon anyhow, you may want to check into the psych ward ahead of time (just kidding, but you get my drift). If the eclipse is near your birthday, there could be some big changes in store for you for the whole year following your birthday.The solar eclipse on February 6 will have the greatest visibility from southern Australia and Antarctica, so if you have some extra vacation time and money, Australia would be the place to be. This Solar eclipse in Aquarius will also be conjunct with Mercury in retrograde. Solar eclipses are for new beginnings, and Mercury retrograde brings up the past. The solar eclipse made some interesting shadows in and around my house, courtesy of our plum tree making what were effectively pinholes for the image to come through. Note: The eclipse was partial from my location due to being outside the path of annularity.

Here's a simple pinhole web camera box I made to record the annular solar eclipse from down here in Los Angeles, California, USA. This portion is right at the peak of the eclipse, and it looks like a crescent moon, but it's the sun with the moon in front of it! LOL. Enjoy
