In case you missed it, here's another chance to see a few highlights from the last total lunar eclipse until 2014... Unfortunately, viewing conditions from Santa Clarita were less than ideal due to a bank of cirrus clouds which graced the skies just before the eclipse began. There were a few brief breaks in the heavier cloud cover, but never a perfectly clear moment, so most of these shots are plagued with fuzzy, blurry, and hazy images. 4 different cameras captured various angles and magnifications to help make the show a little more interesting in spite of the less-than-perfect conditions. Earlier in the night a nice moonbow provided some pre-eclipse entertainment as well. All in all, a decent show =) The soundtrack is "Oberion" from the "TimeShift" CD by Technician (yours truly), album and single track available on iTunes: itunes.apple.com full artist discography and CDs available at technician.jcmdi.com Note This is copyrighted material, however, you may download this footage directly from YouTube and use it free of charge in your own non-profit/non-commercial YouTube videos. Advice on inexpensive astrophotography?

Question by Jubal Harshaw: Advice on inexpensive astrophotography?
I have an 8-inch Dob and am planning on getting into basic solar/moon/planet astrophotography. Would a webcam be the best choice (my budget being from 100-300 dollars)? If so, what tips do you have for me and what accessories should I buy (adapters, software, etc.) Be specific and thanks in advance.
So, basically, all you really need is a camera (with time-lapse feature, if that's the correct term) and an eye-piece adapter?

Best answer:
Answer by Search first before you ask itWebcam photography works best with a driven telescope (which a Dob isn't). I've liked using a good point-and-shoot with manual focus features such as most of Canon's "A" series model cameras.

Why do we then not see the whole moon during the day?

Question by gordon p: Why do we then not see the whole moon during the day?
I understand that at night it's the earth blocking the reflection of the sun on the moon that causes partial moons, but what happens when we see partial moons during the day, seems like we should see a full moon?

Best answer:
Answer by Roman SoldierYou are seeing the day and night side of the moon. The moon only reflects light from the sun, and does not give off it's own light. The dark side is the side facing away from the sun. Next time during the day look up at the moon, and you will notice the side that is lit up is the side facing the sun.

Europe's Space-based solar observatory Proba-2 passed through the Moon's shadow on 3 of the 14.5 orbits it completed around the Earth on November 13, 2012, the day of a total solar eclipse visible in Australia.
