Venus transit -very easy way to make safety glasses etc?

Question by lucia: Venus transit -very easy way to make safety glasses etc?
I am not at all good at these things and never could see any events like these because I couldn't get any method to work and didn't understand where to look. When I was a kid I got so frustrated during a solar eclipse that I just looked directly at the sun. Don't want to do that again..I am not scientific at all but want to see this! Thanks everyone for any easy suggestions!!

Answer by Star DustFind a local welders' supply store. Buy a replacement filter for a welder's mask with a rating no less than #14. The transit of Venus will show as a small, black dot "on" the sun's face.

What is the difference between a lunar eclipse and the new moon?

As much detail and links helpful!

Answer by KA new moon is when the moon is directly between Earth and the Sun, and is thus not illuminated at all and invisible to us. A lunar eclipse occurs during a full moon, when the moon is exactly opposite the Sun and fully illuminated, but then passes through Earth's shadow, dimming it and making it appear reddish-brown.

Answer by JayjhisThe moon travels across the sky, and its usually in front of some stars. I don't think I understand this part of the question.

A blue moon just means there are 4 full moons in a season instead of 3. A season is 3 months long and a lunar cycle is a little shorter than a month, so sometimes there is an extra. By this definition, August of 2013 is the next one. It can also refer to two full moons in the same month, which will happen in August of 2012.
