Answer by John GA solar eclipse is nothing to worry about. It just means that the moon is passing between the earth and the sun, so that we are in the moon's shadow.

One way the solar eclipse COULD be dangerous is if you look directly at it. Staring at the sun is always dangerous. When there is not an eclipse, people are not tempted to do this. During an eclipse, except for a very small part of the time when the eclipse is at totality, then part of the sun is showing behind the moon. From Earth, an annular solar eclipse appears as a solar ring. How high would you have to go up for it to appear as a total eclipse? In other words, how high is the point that that connects the umbra to the antumbra? Let's use the eclipse of May 10, 1994 as an example.

Answer by bikenbeer2000Since the Sun and Moon both appear about 0.5ยบ in diameter in the sky, this is the angle of taper of the Moon's shadow, i.e. about 1/100th of a radian. So for a shadow path width of 100 km on the surface of the Earth, the apex of the cone of the shadow will be about 10,000km above the Earth's surface.

There were two parts
First part: I was standing in my balcony and I saw a plane falling from the sky. It was going to hit my house but it suddenly turned and hit across the street, two houses down. There were no survivers and I even saw it on the news.
Second part: The next day I had 3 people over (they are aquaintences but for some reason we were friends in my dream). We were talking in my dining room. I was talking about the plane crash (showed them a video on youtube of the disaster). Suddenly. lightning struck my house and there was an earthquake. We were running out the house, and I realized I left my dog inside. I woke up.
It felt so scary and real, I had to ask myself if a plane really crashed.
I'm starting University very soon, and I'm the first person in my family who's actually going to college. I worry about my future a lot, this economys not really helping my worries.
