The Moon's orbit is inclined at 5 degrees to the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon such that the three bodies are in line and the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow.Lunar eclipses can only occur when the moon is near full and can be seen from anywhere on Earth where the moon is above the horizon. The Moon doesn't normally completely disappear since it is illuminated by light scattered from Earth's atmosphere, but it usually becomes a reddish, coppery colour. The full shadow of the Earth, called the Umbra, is surrounded by a partial shadow, called the Penumbra. At the beginning and end stages of an eclipse, the Moon moves into the penumbra. This shadow is barely discernible on the lunar disk and eclipses where the Moon only passes through the Earth's penumbra are known as Penumbral Eclipses. There are two other types of eclipse: Partial where only a part of the moon passes though the Earth's dark umbral shadow and Umbral where the Moon is totally enveloped by the Umbra. These eclipses are better known as Total Lunar Eclipses. And that's what will occur on the morning or August 28th. For the second time this year (2007), the Moon will go into a total Eclipse. The eclipse will be visible from five continents including most of North America. Unfortunately, it won't be visible from Europe or Africa. The event begins 54 minutes past midnight PDT (0754 UT) on August 28th when the Moon enters Earth's shadow. At first, there's little change. The outskirts of Earth's shadow are as pale as the Moon itself; an onlooker might not even realize anything is happening. But as the Moon penetrates deeper, a startling metamorphosis occurs. Around 2:52 am PDT (0952 UT), the color of the Moon changes from moondust-gray to sunset-red. This is totality, and it lasts for 90 minutes. And the best part is that you don't need a telescope to watch the spectacle. All you need is a clear sky.And if you should miss this one, there'll be a chance to see one on Feb. 21, 2008!You can find out when future eclipses will happen (and when past ones occured) with LunarPhase Pro, which also predicts a huge number of Moon phenomena and lets you become acquainted with the Moon through its interactive Moon Atlas. For more information about the eclipse, with times and diagrams try these sites: Aug. 2007 Moon Eclipse and Moon Phases on Squidoo

Will the world end in 2012?

Question by : Will the world end in 2012?
I just read this information about the Mayan calendar of what came true about and it all makes since. But i know the calendar ends in 2012 it never says the "world will end" so do you think the calendar will start over?

1. The Maya predicted the return of "Quetzalcoatl" a white bearded god from the East, who had assisted them in setting up their great civilization; Thought to be a survivor of the legendary Atlantis. The Spanish conquistadors arrived on queue. It would appear the Maya were not expecting a god that would nearly wipe them out since they welcomed the conquistadors with open arms.

2. The Maya predicted the existence of a black hole at the center of our Galaxy, a black hole they called "HUNAB KU"; their central sun and creator of all. In recent years, Modern Science confirmed the existence of a black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, from whence all matter comes from.

3. The Mayan Calendar predicted a total solar eclipse for 1991 and 1999; they both occurred on schedule. These two events were used to synchronize our calendar (The Gregorian Calendar) to the Mayan Calendar. The end of the Mayan Calendar coincides with the Winter Solstice of 2012 (12-21-2012).

4. The Mayan Calendar predicted an eruption of cosmic energy rays from the back hole would occur in 1992, twenty years prior to 2012. This energy would help create aggressive sun spots and bring increasingly hotter temperatures to Earth. We are now witnessing the affects now and our pollution is only making things worse. The cosmic energy rays were witnessed and confirmed in 2004.

5.The Mayan Calendar predicted a change of consciousness from left-brain thinking to right-brain thinking (Logical to Intuitive) in the same time period as above. From this, some deduced the melt down of the worlds paper currencies in a period between Nov. 2007 and Oct. 2008 as humanity loses confidence in the abstract (paper currency) and embraces the more concrete, such as gold and other precious metals.

There is no "End of the World" Maya prophecy for 2012; Rather, they predict the "End of the World as we know it". Great changes are expected to happen, including more natural disasters followed by a change in consciousness and a time of peace.

Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance escalates with action and ramps up the excitement in Eclipse, the third entry in the Twilight Saga. Instead of attempting to fit into the mold of the traditional vampire genre, the Twilight series continues to create new fans, attracting a wider audience with its romance and fang-less action.Historically, sequels and multi-chapter series tend to be let-downs. When a blockbuster story captures the public's attention, we typically anticipate the follow-ups that inevitably disappoint. Contrary to this expected decline in enthusiasm, I found each stage of the Twilight Saga to be substantially more entertaining that its predecessor. While New Moon took on emotional plot twists that stunned Twilight fans, it opened the door for broader and more compelling story lines. Skeptical about Eclipse's ability to maintain the intensity, I entered the third stage of the Twilight Saga prepared to be under whelmed. With mild amusement, I found my doubts fading quickly as I sank my teeth into Meyer's third Twilight installment. As in Twilight and New Moon, nearby Seattle is still wracked by mysterious killings and clumsy Bella Swan is still unsettled by her love for vampire Edward Cullen and her friendship with werewolf Jacob Black. Bella and the Cullens eventually deduce that the murders in Seattle are being committed by Victoria and an army of newborn vampires, created to satisfy Victoria's lust for revenge over the death of her vampire mate. The Cullen family strike and uneasy truce with the La Push werewolf pack and join forces to combat the impending threat of the newborn vampires.Eclipse continues to underscore Bella's anguish, acknowledging that her heart is torn between her true love, Edward and her unrequited love for Jacob. Wracked with trepidation, she realizes how her desire to become a vampire will impact the people she loves most. Throughout Eclipse, we see Bella's struggle to justify the ramifications of her actions before she reaches the final decision about a vampire eternity.Included in the fun of the Eclipse novel are more historical details about the vampires themselves. Revealing secrets about Jasper's past and startling events that threatened to expose the vampire race, including bloody vampire wars. Meyer serves up tasty tidbits for those who like an intriguing back story. With the threat of newborn vampires approaching, Bella won't allow herself to be left behind during the action. The thought of her true love or best friend being injured is more than she can bear. Bella and Edward use Bella's scent to lure the newborn vampires, which will lead them to into a trap. In the ultimate Twilight battle, Victoria's newborn vampires must face the Cullen coven and their werewolf allies.Another respectful nod to Stephenie Meyer for penning a story that draws you in and holds you in its grip. Besides the fact that 99% of the time someone shows a picture of the Mayan calendar and is really passing the Aztec Sun Stone off as Mayan, the 2012 calendar is a multifaceted issue. All the focus is being aimed at the Maya's Long Count calendar. Yet it is only a part of the most complex time keeping approach the world has ever known. There are really a overall of 20 different calendars that make up the dating system needed to compute the Long Count. The Long Count'ts ending date for Baktun 13.0.0.0.0 being December 21, 2012 is being hammered into our consciousness from every direction. It s as if no other day between now and Winter Solstice 2012 has any bearing on the future of humanity. The way all the prophecies and predications are being presented in regards to this ending date on the Long Count would lead you to comprehend that all of these catastrophes are set to go off in one massive calamity. It wouldn't be wise to get the idea that nothing will take place between now and 12-21-12.There are other dates that have been pointed out from the 2012 calendar that might be worth noting. Two versions of Mayan calendric symbol patterns have appeared in crop circles in the few years. The first crop circle shows the cycles of the Long Count calendar framing the focal point of the fifth and current cycle showing that it is still in motion but ending in 2012. This pattern appeared August 2nd, 2004 at the ancient sacred site of Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, UK.Then on August 9, 2005 a more concise Maya calendar crop circle went down next to Wayland s Smithy long barrow, also in Wiltshire, UK. The pattern gives concrete dates in 2012, showing a central solar eclipse taking place on May 20, 2012 which is also the Summer Solstice. It just so happens that there will be an annular eclipse on that day; annular meaning the only part of the sun that will remain in view will be a ring of light around the moon. There is in the symbols the statement of a Venus transit across the face of the sun to occur 16 days later on June 6, 2012. NASA shows both of these events taking place on those dates in their Sky Calendars at NASA.Gov.The Mayas are not the only ancient culture who has a calendar created long ago with this ending date. The Cherokee people also have a 2012 calendar end date that has a final date for this cycle in time of December 18, 2012. This date is not given to us by Western academics but by the Cherokee themselves. The Cherokee have constellations that are unlike any other ancient citizens. Their calendar ends in
