The Magic School Bus Award Winning Science Kits For Kids 5 - 12 Years Old From Young Scientists Club

The Magic School Bus series of science kits from The Young Scientists Club have won over 30 awards. The kits are tested before going on the market by the kids attending the Young Scientist Summer camps so they get a very thorough testing from their target audience. These kits build on the success of the Magic School bus books and DVD's allowing kids from 5 years old and up to actually engage in the science experiments so they learn more than just by sitting and watching a DVD or reading a book. Science for kids needs to be engaging and practical hands on experiments are the best way to accomplish this goal. Science kits always make a useful addition to a homeschool library but are not out of place in any home where there are kids to entertain especially on weekends and school holidays. The Young Scientists Club was founded in 1999. Their mission to engage boys and girls around the world in 'An educational science adventure that lasts a lifetime.' They aim to do this by offering products designed by Harvard graduates, scientists, educators and parents to combine quality and learning with fun and fascination. They hope that children will find a spark of interest and want to discover more about science through experimentation. The Magic School Bus series is just one of the series offered by The Young Scientist Club and is a series of fun and exciting kits based on the book series by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degan. Ms Frizzle and her students make science an exhilarating experience.Kits: Back in Time with the Dinosaurs - create a timeline, design a diorama, build a wooden dinosaur replica, make cast and mould fossils, mould clay dinosaur teeth, simulate a dino dig, fold 3D dinosaurs... Solar Energy to the Rescue - explore the greenhouse effect, collect real carbon dioxide, recreate global warming in a bottle, use a solar panel to spin a fan, make a solar secret code, design solar spinners, watch solar energy inflate balloons... Diving into Slime, Gel and Goop - discover oobleck, produce glue from milk, grow jiggly marbles, make snow from super-absorbent crystals, form a bouncy ball, create slime, expand super-absorbent gel crystals, melt fake snow, learn about polymers... Going Green - recreate the water cycle, build a compost tube, shrink plastic, magically make packing peanuts disappear, decompose food with fungus, form pulp, create new paper, design recycled paper shapes, learn about the 3 R's... 2009's Ten Biggest, Most Memorable Events

2009's Ten Biggest, Most Memorable Events

It seems every year of the new millennium has seen some huge events occur; little perhaps of the magnitude of September 11, 2001 or the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, but still, here are the ten biggest, most memorable events of the year MMIX (so far), in reverse order:NUMBER 10July 22 - Longest total solar eclipse of the 21st Century takes placeLasting six minutes and 38 seconds this was the second of three (the first and third were more minor penumbral lunar) eclipses in one month and it was observed by millions over China, Japan, Nepal and India. The next comparably-sized solar eclipse will occur beyond our time in 2132.NUMBER 9January 20 - President Barack Obama is inaugurated 44th President of the USAHeralding a new hope, President Obama comes into office amid depths of uncertainty surrounding the Global Financial Crisis. His slogan, 'Yes, we can,' is apt; he's appears the man of the hour for such a time as this.NUMBER 8March 3 - Gunmen attack a bus carrying Sri Lankan international cricketers; eight people are killedNot a large terrorist event but one that was significant by virtue of the target. International teams are now put on further notice as they travel to the world's trouble spots.NUMBER 7February 7 - The Black Saturday bushfires kill 173 people and leave 7,500 homeless in Victoria, AustraliaA shockingly devastating set of climatic conditions and a combination of electrically and deliberately lit fires spark unprecedented fire emergencies throughout the State. The event transforms the Australian culture toward bushfire from generally lax to vigilant almost overnight such was the depth of human tragedy experienced. The national response to the plight of the victims via charity is an unprecedented success.NUMBER 6May 25 - North Korea announces it has conducted its second successful nuclear weapon testThis was a significant event from the perspective of the future peace and sustainability of the world and major country diplomatic unity. North Korea continues to defy international convention and arrogantly sets itself as one of the key dictator and recalcitrant countries of the 21st Century.NUMBER 5September 29 & 30 - Tsunamis off Samoa and Sumatra kill over 1,000 people and destroy critical infrastructureAfter the Boxing Day tsunamis of 2004 there is heightened awareness of the cost and scope of tsunami events in terms of human tragedy. Q&A: Will the largest moon eclipse on July 21 be a bad omen for earthquakes and more economic quakes?

by marymactavish
Question by Eye of Amalek: Will the largest moon eclipse on July 21 be a bad omen for earthquakes and more economic quakes?
On July 21-22, 2009, the world will pass under the largest moon shadow eclipse and darken the skies in the widest swath, directly witnessed by the most people in history. It just so happens that the total eclipse will begin casting a shadow close to where Nostradamus’ eclipse of August 11, 1999 ended in Gujarat. The new shadow first touches down on the Gulf of Khambhat off western India around dawn of 22 July, Indian Time. The gulf cuts into the Gujarati landmass slightly east of where the August 11, 1999 eclipse shadow passed beyond earth.

Nostradamus was interested in celestial portents as prophecy. Writing from the mid-1550s, he had accurately foreseen events and assassinations of royalty that did take place under the visitation of a great comet over religious civil war ravaged France in the year 1577. Farther forward into the future, he described the passage of the Moon’s shadow over Flanders and the spot where Jesus Christ was crucified around the time of the new Millennium and how this would usher in earthshaking events both literal and metaphorical. On August 11, 1999, a total eclipse did begin in S. England. The Moon shadow crossed the English Channel passing over Flanders, Greece, Turkey, Jerusalem (the site of Christ’s crucifixion) and finally moved out into space after shading the State of Gujarat, India. In the weeks to follow, Greece, then Turkey suffered large-scale earthquakes. Nearly 50,000 reported killed in Turkey alone. In early 2001, Gujarat may have lost upwards of 100,000 buried by a monster quake. After the eclipse of 1999 came American history’s significant course change in 2000 with the Bush era, and then the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. The world under the malefic influence of both has forever altered its destiny.

In 1976, m. Raymond weil, who had previously been a watch designer for another company, founded the watch house that bears his name in geneva, switzerland. The 1970s, when quartz watches shook the foundations of the mechanical watches market, is remembered as a hard time by all watch companies. It was a common belief by some consumers that there was no need for them anymore; after all, quartz watches were more accurate, did not need winding, and were infinitely cheaper to produce. These were hard times enough that it is a surprise to some that the industry survived as well as it did – it is even more surprising to learn that for raymond weil, these dark days were the hour of its birth. As one of the newer swiss watch houses, raymond weil has built up a prestigious reputation in a short period of time. Quality speaks for itself, and raymond weil’s watches were so fine, word quickly spread. The number of dealerships then increased with the founder becoming highly sought after and muc

Space Simulation Software - Making Learning Fun

Space Simulation Software - Making Learning Fun

We can sometimes find it challenging to teach our kids about space or our solar system, however there is one tool that will guarantee that your youngster not only learns, but also has fun, space simulator software. We all know that kids enjoy video games. It can be a struggle to find a video game that is educational. Sure there are educational games, but more are simply a textbook session with poorly designed game features stuck on the top. Kids don't play these pseudo-games very long because they aren't entertaining. Now, what if you could be guaranteed that your youngster would learn while enjoying a video game? Space simulator software, though not really a game is a fantastic means to have your youngster learn without them even knowing it. Imagine what your youngster would do if given a game that permitted them to soar through space, visit the planets in our solar and travel past its reaches to stars, planets and systems that we can only observe via a telescope. Now imagine if the time that your youngster spends goofing on your XBox, PS3, Wii or computer was spent enjoying space simulator software. The amount that they learned would be phenomenal. Why Does it Work? Most kids are visual learners. Space simulator software is an enormous visual learning sandbox. Imagine describing the orbits of the planets around the Sun to a youngster. Now imagine showing the orbits to a class in real time and observing their smiles as they watch the planets circle the Sun. Because they have observed the information, they can understand it and remember it more efficiently.Human beings learn more effectively when the teaching method is interactive. If you read from a textbook a certain, small portion of a class will retain the material. If you allow the students to interact, in this case via space simulator software they will grab hold of the concepts quicker and have a lot of joy while they do it.What Features are Important in Space Simulator Software? The software must be easy to use. If it is too complex kids will become flustered and stop playing. It must be attractive. Children are drawn to colour and motion and the galaxy is full of both. If the space simulator software that you pick doesn't appeal to the youngster then they will stop using it. The space simulator software should also provide a way to go back in time to see eclipses and other events that have taken place in the past. If you do get confused a user's guide is important. Not as important, but still an integral aspect of any space simulator software package are guided tours. It's one thing to search out the planets, and another to be guided on a tour by someone who can describe it all. It is also a great benefit if the software can be used on many machines. Sitting

by Michael Holden
Question by magicman6837: How successful are you on Black Friday?
So, i'm gunna go black friday shopping for the first time this friday and i was wondering, how likely is it that you will get the items that you wanted?. Do you think it's worth it to wake up at 5 am to go get some stuff for just a couple bucks off?I'm not looking for anything huge, planning to spend less than a hundred bucks. and what are some tips for Black Friday shopping? thanks!

Oh and i'm 15 if that makes a difference in your recommendations.

Best answer:
Answer by JohnI am very successful on Black Friday- I stay home and avoid the marketing trap.

Is it worth waking up at 5AM for a couple bucks off? I'd pay a couple bucks to have a few extra hours of sleep so not for me.

When you also consider the accidents and violence that accompany Black Friday I would say it is absolutely NOT worth it.

People get crazy over those couple of bucks. If you are that concerned about saving money use coupons and rebates the entire year.
