On June 1st, a partial eclipse of the Sun became visible across northern latitudes - and also from Earth orbit. Between 2040 and 2246 GMT, ESA's Proba-2 micro-satellite twice crossed the path of the lunar shadow to return views of the partial solar eclipse. Proba-2's main SWAP (Sun Watcher using APS detectors and imaging processing) instrument acquired a new image every 30 seconds, built up into the movie seen here.

Solar Shades Eclipse the Opposition

by clogwog
Solar Shades Eclipse the Opposition

There are people who support the use of wave and water power as the new source of energy but for many others, solar power is the top energy choice. Ever since the 1960s, there has been something very sexy and exciting about utilizing solar power as an energy source. The decade was one of forward thinking and psychedelic ideas and new energy sources have developed from then. Since then, a lot of research and development has gone into capturing the suns rays as a power source and it is now a reliable source of energy today. One of the more intriguing products to provide this is definitely solar shades. As shades are used to protect from the sun, this is a perfect product. The product is used when it is sunny and this provides the power for it. There are a huge amount of different types of solar shades and they include:- Interior transparent shades- Interior light blocking shades- Privacy shades- Dimming shades- Exterior transparent shades- Skylight shadesThe beauty of this product is that it is practical and environmentally sound. Many people take pride in their home these days and want products that look great. Combining a great looking product with an eco-friendly outlook is a great bonus. These shades manage to keep a room cool and block too much sun from coming in. And more importantly, they save on electricity.A normal motorized shade may not use too much electricity but it is important to save money. If a person uses their shade every day, over the course of a year, it will be a fair cost to the user. Using the sun to power the movement of the shade reduces the cost to zero. This means the user gets all the benefit but none of the cost. It is easy to see why many people are moving over to this type of shade. A solar shade looks great, helps the environment and saves money. This three pronged benefit is why more and more customers want to buy the product. With more and more new products available to make a home look good, it takes something special to stand out. This combination of ecological friendly and great style gives these shades the edge over their rivals. As more people push to have an environmentally friendly house, more solar products will become the norm in the house of tomorrow.

We earthlings love to look up at the moon. So much does the moon enamor us; we write movies, songs and poems by the droves that contain the name of the earth's super satellite. A case in point is the fact that one of the biggest selling record albums of all time is Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon."For all its romance inspiring awesomeness, the moon has another side to its personality. Werewolves, mood swings and even wild behavior are often blamed on the full moon. How many times have you heard the question acrimoniously asked, "is it a full moon tonight?"Still, the moon is important and interesting to all of us who live in sight of its majestic beauty. We never tire wondering about it. In this article, we will talk about the moon, its cycles and the phenomenon known as the "blue moon." Then, we will even give you a heads up as to when you can expect the next several full moons.Full moons on different daysWhere you live on earth rarely makes a difference as to whether the moon is full, quarter or new. This is because it takes the moon almost a month to travel around the earth and it only takes a day for the earth to turn around once. So in comparison, the moon sort of sits in the sky and waits for us to see what phase it is in. Still, there are times when the moon will be full on different calendar days in different areas of the earth.Once in a blue moonTechnically, it takes the moon an average of 29.53 days to travel around the earth. Most months are longer than this. So, it is possible to have more than one full moon in one month. When this happens, the second moon is called a "calendar blue moon." Of course, this is a simple rule. So, let's complicate it! The Farmer's Almanac defines a blue moon as the third full moon in a season of four full moons. This is the correct definition of a blue moon. Since a season is three months long, most seasons will have three full moons. However, on occasion a season will have four. When this happens, the third is a true blue moon.So here you have two definitions of a blue moon but the one for a calendar blue moon does not describe the true meaning of a blue moon. Here's why:On occasion February will have no full moons and January and March will both have two. In this case, you have two calendar blue moons in the same year. However, there can be no more than one in a year's time or it would
