Question by : When will the next Total Solar Eclipse be that will be visible from North America?
I read on NASAs website that there will be one in May of 2012 that will be visible from some of the western USA. But it was a long article using a lot of scientific language I didn't quite understand. So, when, and where will a total solar eclipse be visible somewhere in North America? I'd like to go and see it but I don't have any information on it.

Thanks!
Shawn

Answer by Red RoseThat's an annular eclipse, which by your word "total" I assume is now what you are looking for.

The next total solar eclipse visible from mainland US will be August 21, 2017.

Here is a page with clear language which describes the two types of solar eclipse: http://www.mreclipse.com/Special/SEprimer.html
