There will be an annular solar eclipse visible in the USA on Sunday, May 20, 2012.

I live in New York City, and I read that I will only be able to see a partial eclipse, is that right? In New York, it will be visible from 4:56 pm - 10:49 pm..... hmmm, how do you see the sun at 10:49 pm? Sunset is at 8:10 pm.

So do I have my information correct, I can watch it from 4:56 pm until sunset?

Thank you

Answer by cosmoIt won't be visible at all from New York --- the center of the eclipse is in mid-Pacific. It will start just after sunset in New York, in southern China. It will be visible just before sunset in northern California and southern Oregon.

Annular eclipses are partial everywhere. They're nowhere near as spectacular as a total eclipse.

The one to look for is August 2017.
