Question by Steven Butterworth: Is it true that looking at a solar eclipse makes you go blind?
If you look at a solar eclipse, is it true that it can burn your eyes and make you go blind? if yes, can you wear some type of glasses to see it?
Best answer:
Answer by eriStaring at an eclipse itself is not dangerous. What's dangerous is when the eclipse ends and the Sun starts coming out from the edge of the Moon - your pupils are open wide because it was dark, so the sudden blaze of light hits your eyes and can do a lot more damage than usual (when you just look up at the Sun normally, your pupils are contracted so not much light gets in). Yes, you can wear eclipse glasses or welders glass to look at it without this problem.
