Does it get specifically dark outside during the occurance of a lunar eclipse?

Question by scottidawg@rocketmail.com: Does it get specifically dark outside during the occurance of a lunar eclipse?
I know the moon slips out briefly and then becomes red from the atmosphere of the earth but what about the surrounding area?
Does it become pitch black outside when the moon is red or when it slips out?

Best answer:
Answer by Jim DIt would get a little darker, but a moonless night would still be darker.
