Question by isayiamiam: Total eclipse of the sun and your birthday?
What are the mathematical odds that in your lifetime a total eclipse of the sun will happen on your birthday? I am just curious. My birthday is July 22 and there will be a total eclipse of the sun that will be visible in Shanghai, China on July 22, 2009.
Best answer:
Answer by SiriusBSolar eclipses happen on average every 18 months or so. Assuming an average age of 80 years this would mean 53 solar eclipses in your lifetime. As no day should be more likely than any other this gives odds of around 1 in 7. Unless, of course, you were born on Feb 29th.
