Question by : What do you think of today's lunar eclipse?
Today, June 15, 2011 there will be a lunar eclipse (earth is between sun and moon, blocking sun's light to moon, which makes tonight a dark night, with a reddish moon) and it will be visible in my country too, and I'm really excited! It is the darkest and one of the longest lunar eclipse in the century. The total phase will last for 100 minutes, the longest lunar eclipse since July 2000.
Narrated 'Aisha: In the lifetime of the Prophet the sun eclipsed and the Prophet (p.b.u.h) stood up to offer the prayer with the people and recited a long recitation, then he performed a prolonged bowing, and then lifted his head and recited a prolonged recitation which was shorter than the first. Then he performed a prolonged bowing which was shorter than the first and then lifted his head and performed two prostrations. He then stood up for the second Raka and offered it like the first and then finished the prayer; by then the sun (eclipse) had cleared. He delivered the Khutba (sermon) and after praising and glorifying Allah he said, "The sun and the moon are two signs against the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse on the death or life of anyone. So when you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say Takbir, pray and give Sadaqa." The Prophet then said, "O followers of Muhammad! By Allah! There is none who has more ghaira (self-respect) than Allah as He has forbidden that His slaves, male or female commit adultery (illegal sexual intercourse). O followers of Muhammad! By Allah! If you knew that which I know you would laugh little and weep much. (Bukhari Book #18, Hadith #154)
So people, are you going to offer the long 2 rakah prayer in congregation at the masjid? What will you do today?
In my country it will be visible from 10.54 p.m- 04.30 a.m!
So muslims, spread the word!
Remember Allah, give charity, Say Takbir - Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and pray the 2 rakah sunnah congregational prayer at the masjid! And don't miss to watch the eclipse, perfectly alright to watch it with naked eyes! (only solar eclipses are harmful to watch with naked eyes)

Answer by Ali Ibn Jr.Thank you for the information. I might look for that tonight.
I found the ending of that hadith most interesting, the part where the Prophet says if you knew what I knew you would laugh little and weep much. I have noticed in some other prophet stories (Apostle John in Revelation/New Testament and Nephi in Book of Mormon) that Allaah sometimes gives his messengers more information about the future than they are allowed to share with others.
