I had a new telescope and got to see it magnified high powered with a slate filter! Saw the corona!

Answer by Geoff GThat's strange. The last total solar eclipse visible in Los Angeles was on 1923 September 10.

Recorded near my house in Los Angeles, Southern California with Solar eclipse glasses. Here's a video showing the partial solar eclipse happening over Los Angeles on May 20, 2012. It covers 86 percent of the sun at approx 6:38pm. I was planning on going to the famous Griffith Observatory to watch the Solar eclipse with thousands of other videos. I changed my mind because I didn't want to battle the traffic going up there. Don't forget the Transit of Venus happening on June 5-6 2012. This is the first major partial eclipse to happen in Los Angeles since 2002. My dog was also looking at the Solar Eclipse.
