What's a solar system eclipse?

Question by optiplex523: What's a solar system eclipse?
I read in a doomsday book about a solar system eclipse that will block the view from the earth of the center of the galaxy, so i was hoping that someone can explain this. (its not a solar eclipse where the view of the *sun* is blocked by the moon neither is a lunar eclipse where earths shadow can be seen in the moon).

Answer by tham153Makes little sense, as the center of our galaxy is not "visible" for several reasons. First it is 28,000 lightyears away. Second, we've got two spiral arms of the galaxy blocking our view. Third, the center is a black hole, which will never be visible even if the first two objections are eliminated. Presumably the author is suggesting a dense dark nebula gets in the way. Irritating for galactic specialists, but hardly a doomsday scenario.
