Question by : The Sun has an outer atmosphere called the corona, which can be seen at the time of a total solar eclipse.?
The corona is known to be very hot and not
very dense. What would you expect see in the spectrum of the corona? Why?

Best answer:
Answer by Anthony DewarIf by hot you mean around 10,000 kelvin then the spectral lines would show strong excited hydrogen lines. This is a type A star.

If it's around 20,000 Kelvin, it would be a type B star and would have spectral lines of excited Hydrogen and excited Helium.

At around 30,000 Kelvin, the type O star will show excited Hydrogen lines and also Ionized Helium lines (He2)

The denser the star is the broader the spectral lines.

The less dense, the more narrow they are.

Corona, New Mexico May 20, 2012. The day and time of the rare annular solar eclipse. Really bad hasty attempt and ill-prepared due to time constraints to attempt to catch the eclipse. With s 2 pairs of sunglasses on the eclipse started out with a typical shadow at the lower right of the sun. Then the shadow turned into the shape of a flower similar to a tulip with 2 leaves. Then later the usual flaming ring of fire which was spectacular. Such a wonderful joyous sight to see in real life. Science and those people behind the scenes to let humans know about this event ahead of time is a tremendous feat. The ring was huge light of fire. The dark center was something else too. Here is this massive Star and a huge black disk slowly covers most of the disk except for the outer perimeter of the Sun. As the Moon glides in the opposite direction from which it appeared to enter it slide to the upper left of the Sun. Much to surprise another flower appeared except upside down. During the moon's passage the sky glowed. The landscape glowed. The color was mostly a burning orange. It was definitely darker than normal but surreal as if a movie director ordered a colored filtered lens for the scene. For a moment in those quiet hills except for an occasional car the world seem so peaceful.
