Total Solar EclipseOn July. 22th. 2009, a total solar eclipse brushed the Asian part of the earth, which is the longest eclipse since July 11, 1991. This eclipse could be captured only in Asia. It came to its peak in India at about 6:20am local time (8:50pm EDT; 0050 GMT), and lasted for 6 minutes and 39 seconds. Including me, most people in North America felt greatly regretful because the total eclipse cannot be seen in the continental Americas. However, the partial eclipse brushed Hawaii around sunset on July 21. The eclipse appeared on July 22 in Asia, but July 21 in Hawaii. But never lose heart, Americans! On July, 11,2010, there is a total solar eclipse up to magnitude of 1.058 hit ss America. Another total solar eclipse up to Magitude 1.031 is expected to occur in N. America, ns. America.A solar eclipse arises from the natural phenomenon when the moon moves between the Sun and the Earth, blocking competely or partially the sun light that transmits to the earth, and cast a shadow on earth. According to astronomers, at least two to five solar eclipses occur on Earth every year, one to two of them being total eclipses. In the acient times, with the comparatively less advanced technology, people were fear of solar eclipse when it occurred. They thought the sun was eaten by some dogz, which dropped a hint that a destructive disaster was on its way to come. There were many civil legends about solar eclipse. In the modern times, though science has already uncovered the mysterious veil of solar eclipse, there are still numbers of people who hold superstitious prejudice against solar eclipse. For example, during the elclipse on July, 22, 2009, millions of Indians kept themselves indoors in order to hide from the eclipse. India is an ancient country with too much spiritual stories and fables based on Hindu mythology. Some people think that an eclipse is caused by some beast when swallowing the sun, while another myth is that sun rays during an eclipse can harm unborn children, which makes their children handicap throughout their lives. So, in some areas where are abundant in superstition, even the eclipse is not visible, pregnant women were told to stay indoors and hide themselves in closed shelter. The solar eclipse on the 22th is depicted as the rare event that is seldom available throughout thousands of years due to its long lasting time- up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds.
