I understand that at night it's the earth blocking the reflection of the sun on the moon that causes partial moons,but what happens when we see partial moons during the day,seems like we should see a full moon?

Answer by Roman SoldierYou are seeing the day and night side of the moon. The moon only reflects light from the sun, and does not give off it's own light. The dark side is the side facing away from the sun. Next time during the day look up at the moon, and you will notice the side that is lit up is the side facing the sun.
