Is just me or are some of the things that folks wear to the gym enough to burn your retina, permanently? You know like a solar eclipse when the experts warn that looking right at it without a filter will cause irreparable damage. Read on for details but be warned, this will not be pretty.Here the deal: I am not a high fashion gym guy. I'll wear an occasional Nike short and even more occasionally a logo shirt. On the other hand the sights I see at the gym can really hurt your eyes if you look too long or stare too hard. So as not be sexist please know that the conditions and descriptions mentioned herein apply to both men and women.There are likely categories for the attire people choose to wear to workout and if there are no formal ones then I am here to make them up. The way I see it breaks down like this:Terminally Fashionable: This god or goddess of workout is adorned head to toe in logo madness. Shirt, pants or shorts (or both), socks, shoes and hat all perfectly aligned. These are the same folks that seem to not sweat and may well send their workout clothes to the dry cleaner for that "just pressed" look. These are some of the same fabulous people that use the cell phone while walking the treadmill.The Rumpled Ones: Though this can happen any day or time of the week, I find it to be especially prevalent on weekend mornings, say around 7 or 8 a.m. Bed head in place, crusty eyes, the "what the hell am I doing here after the thing I did last night" look; you know the ones. They do have a certain elegance in their wrinkled shirts and long, made for the beach, board shorts. One thing I found to be true though is that they are determined to work hard and I have watched their improvements over time. I applaud these folks for not caring about what's going on superficially outside. They care about results and it shows.Stuck In The 70's: Tennis shorts, tucked in shirt, ankle high white socks with a portable 8 track player. All right I exaggerate, but not by much. These folks, again hard working, need to get one foot into the current millennium.TMI (Too Much Information): Let's be clear here, no one I know wants to see that much of you or your parts. Just the other day I was doing a stretch on the floor. The women next to me, all of 7 feet away, was splayed over a ball in a tight thin cotton leotard like garment. She was not wearing any undergarments, this was obvious because in one glance I knew the camel toe had been spotted and refused to look back. On Friday January 15th 2010 we'll have an annular eclipse in a track about 300 kms wide that starts in central Africa, crosses the Indian ocean, then continues through Bangladesh and India and on to China via Myanmar.Outside that central path a partial eclipse will be apparent in a wide area including eastern Europe, most of the African continent and large parts of Asia.Solar eclipses are fascinating, they occur when the moon passes between the earth and the sun forming a shadow over part of the earth below. It happens during a new moon when the sun and moon are in conjunction as observed from earth.A shadow is cast behind the moon which consists of a dark inner shadow known as the umbra and a lighter outer shadow known as the penumbra. Where the dark umbra falls, a total eclipse is observed. Areas shaded by the lighter penumbra see a partial eclipse. Eclipses cannot occur at every full moon as usually the moon is not in direct line between the earth and the sun so the moons shadow falls above or below earth.Of course the moon is not always the same distance from earth as its orbit is elliptical so at certain times it is nearer the earth than at other times. When it is nearer earth at the time of an eclipse it appears to blot out the sun completely which we call a total eclipse. When it's not so close it does not quite cover the sun from view and leaves a ring of sun showing around the moon, which we call an annular eclipse.In ancient times eclipses were somewhat magical events which many saw as bringing bad luck and misfortune. The wise old astronomers who managed to work out the patterns and predict future eclipses were thought of as very wise future tellers.These days we understand eclipses as part of the perfectly normal movement of our portion of the solar system. That does not stop us being fascinated by them some of us even travel around the world to observe and photograph them.

Viewing a solar eclipse, total or partial, is no doubt an exciting event. Most children study eclipses, and seeing one will definitely help them understand and appreciate the topic a lot more. You don't have to book tickets to Libya in enthusiasm, but if the eclipse will be visible from your city, do make it a point to show it to your children. There are certain superstitions associated with eclipses in the Indian culture. Here are some of them. Pregnancy A very prominent myth states that a pregnant woman should not view the eclipse, nor should she step out in the sun during an eclipse. As a result, thousands of pregnant women in India have been warned to stay home between the hours of 4:00 to 6:30. Some 'pandits' go a step further and advise the women to lie down and rest during this period. It is said that if a woman steps out during an eclipse, her child will be born with marks all over his body. A pregnant woman should also not hold a pair of scissors, a pen, keys or any sharp object in her hand during an eclipse, because chances are that her child will be born with a cleft lip. Some pandits have stated that husbands too should do the same, and that they too should not handle any sharp objects or a pen for these hours, and it would be best if they returned home and rested for a few hours with their wives. After all, no one wants to take a chance with their unborn baby! Other beliefs Many people believe that during an eclipse, the earth is plunged into darkness, which is a negative force. As a result, one must pray for the duration of the eclipse, and take a bath afterwards. Offerings are made to the deity, and donations are made to the poor and needy. Precautions that should be taken when viewing an eclipse include: Glasses No one should view the eclipse with the naked eye. This is because the reduced lighting in the sky caused due to the eclipse, causes the pupils to dilate. In addition, the remaining portion of the sun that is visible, is extremely strong. As a result, our eyes absorb a large amount of UV radiation if we look directly at the eclipse. This can cause permanent eye damage, and even blindness. If you want your child to get a safe view of the eclipse, you could get him eclipse glasses. These are extremely inexpensive, so there's really no reason to think twice. Filters Another way to view the eclipse is through filters, attached to a telescope. It is NOT safe to view the eclipse through sunglasses, binoculars, a telescope without a filter, or even through a camera. People often believe that it is safe

So I had a dream about a lunar eclipse and then I looked off to the left and saw another moon and this moon had a ring around it. What do you think this means. i don't think i was doing anything significant in the dream just looking up at the moons. But there were two at a time, one was eclipsed and the other had a ring around it.

Let's say the moons might be two friends. The one in eclipse is shadowed, representing someone moving away or distancing themselves from you. The other is someone who wants to draw your attention by putting a circle around themselves.
Alternatively, the moons might symbolize two opportunities: two job offers or two courses of study or two vacation possibilities. They might be anything, but one is resisting attention and one is trying to get your attention.

Answer by jaiFirst of all know a fact that the satellite (as well as many solar powered objects) do not use electricity from the solar panels directly , the electricity from the panels are taken to the storage area , mainly rechargeable cells where they are stored and utilised , the reason for the use of storage cells are two , they are,
1) the magnitude of electricity produced by solar panels by photoelectric effect is not constant and varies from time to time , if this varying current is supplied to the satellite , the circuits will surely damage and
2) they obtain electricity from the cells during eclipses or when the earth comes inbetween the sun and the earth,
so with these storage cells they can work for sometime without the use of solar energy, if it run out , the satellite becomes disabled and becomes enabled once again when it gets solar power! further its a fact of minutes that the satellites experience the eclipses than the earth! All the best!

Imagine astronauts on the moon during a lunar eclipse, all sorts of trouble could happen.
Eithor they'll fry up or go through some sort of radiation (who knows).
But if it was safe to do that during an eclipse, i think NASA would of probably done it already :-)

As some of you may know, there is a solar eclipse today and I would like to shoot it with my Canon T2i. I am going to use a zoom lens and UV filter. I see people shoot video of the sun all of the time and there is no problems, but some websites say it will damage the camera.
How long can I shoot video of the sun before it will begin to possibly damage the camera?
Edit: And not just taking a picture, shooting a full length video of it.

I remember I couldn't get this dot out of the sun while I was taking a picture. My mom was going through my pictures and she saw the picture and said it was a solar eclipse because she remembered hearing that there was going to be one.
I didn't believe her but I was wondering what everyone else thought. Do you think it was a solar eclipse?

Answer by RudydooHey J, you're correct. I spoke with Jane at Sunpower customer service today. They may be telling you that they are, "Premium Dealers," but in Sunpowers case, they only allow their certified dealers to install them. She claims it's because of warranty coverage, personally I don't buy it. I can purchase a $ 30,000 automobile today, take it home and change the oil, rotate the tires and flush the radiator, but if the vehicle acts up or the radio quits, they still cover it under warranty.
On a note closer to home, we have a 1.6 kilowatt solar array on our garage roof made up of 14 Kyocera KC-120 panels. One of them failed recently, and Kyocera replaced it for me free of charge. I installed them myself 9 years ago, that was okay with them, as is the case with most panel manufacturers today.
Sunpower claims to have the most efficient solar panels on the market today. If their claim that their panels are 18% efficient, than they are correct. Most panles today are around 13%, which means 13% of the suns energy is converted to electricity, and the other 87% becomes heat. The additional efficiency only allows you to produce the same power in a smaller space, there is no cost benefit to it, in fact, I would suggest that their higher efficiency and premium dealer arrangement actually makes their product more expensive per unit power produced. So at the end of the day, you can spend the same, or more money for an array that runs your home and takes up 25% less space on your roof. For most people, this is of no concern. To give you an example, we power our home with our 1.6 KW array, and at 13%, it takes up less space than the roof of our single car carport, about 85 square feet. Most homes have roof structures that are 5 - 10 times this space, this is why most people opt for more popular brands of panels that are easier to find and purchase, might be less expensive, and allow them to do the work themselves. There are dozens of panel manufacturers out there, Kyocera, BP Sharp, Evergreen and Sun to mention a few. If you have the space for a slightly large array, then all of these products can work for you.

Sky gazers in North America will be treated to the rare sight of a full crimson moon in the wee hours of Saturday morning due to a total lunar eclipse.
The lunar spectacle will appear in the sky on Dec. 10, at 6:06 a.m. Pacific Time and remain visible for 51 minutes. The phenomenon, not expected to be witnessed again until 2014, will be seen in its entirety from Alaska, Hawaii, Australia and parts of Asia.
Those on the west coast of the United States and Canada will be able to witness the early stages of the total eclipse just before dawn.
According to Sky & Telescope magazine, "From roughly Arizona to the Dakotas, the moon sets while it's still totally eclipsed. In the Central time zone the moon sets while still only partially eclipsed, before the total stage even begins. And those farther east miss out completely."
A phenomenon not expected to be witnessed again until 2014, will be visible in its entirety from Alaska, Hawaii, Australia and parts Asia.
The phases of the total lunar eclipse:- A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon all align. The Moon passes behind the Earth so that Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the Moon.
The entire process is set to begin at 4:46 a.m. PT, when the moon first enters the umbra, the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow.
Over the next couple of hours the Earth’s shadow will creep across the moon’s surface, until it is fully covered.
Totality will start at 6:05 a.m. and end at 6:57 am, while the final traces of the Earth’s shadow will pass at 8:15 am after the moon has sunk below the horizon.
At the height of the eclipse, as the moon moves deeper into Earth's shadow, the indirect sunlight passing through Earth's atmosphere will give it a spectacular red or orange hue.

The ‘selenelion’ effect:- During this celestial event, people in North America can get to experience the rare “selenelion” when the sun and the moon are seen together in an eclipse.
Though the sun and moon are in a perfect 180-degree line with Earth during a lunar eclipse, an illusion called atmospheric refraction causes astronomical objects to appear higher in the sky than they are in reality. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon all align. The Moon passes behind the Earth so that Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the Moon.
"This effect actually lengthens the amount of daylight for several minutes or more each day; we end up seeing the sun for a few minutes in the morning before it has actually risen and for a few extra minutes in the evening after it actually already has set," reports Space.com.

While watching a recent History channel documentary (part-1, part-2) regarding the Mayan calendar and its end date of December 21st 2012, I could not help but draw parallels with certain prophetic pronouncements contained within the Qur’an of things yet to come.
Mayan Calendar
The Mayan’s of South America were perhaps one of the most advanced civilizations when it came to astronomy and the mapping of the celestial movement of the stars and our planet. In-fact, the Mayan calendar is so accurate that it has been able to predict lunar and solar eclipses thousands of years in advance based on a complex interlocking system involving lunar-solar-and star movements.
Interestingly enough, the Mayan calendar comes to an end on December 21st 2012 (the day of winter solstice). Now, while some people are speculating that this may mark the end of the world, others are speculating more reasonably that it will mark the end of the current sun-earth-galaxy synchronization and that a new synchronization will begin.
I find this second interpretation to be more logical, especially when we consider that God has told us that our sun is not stationary, but is constantly moving towards a determined point and is by default taking us with it:

On May 20, 2012, an annular solar eclipse will pass over the western United States. in ancient Greece believed that an eclipse was a sign of angry gods, therefore it was thought of as a bad omen.

It was an ironical event of last decade, when some parts of earth were said to had been totally eclipsed from the lively light of "Sun ". People had lit house lights in the daytime. Every channel of the world started commenting second by second movements of the so-called eclipse. The leading magazines highlighted their covering pages with this unforgettable event and published the dark photos of the Sun. all were called it the "Solar eclipse".But "Wattayo" one of my dearest fellows was crying on such a non-sense act, which was being done by our media and even by learned scientists. He said:" this is purely agony with the sun. I am going to protest against this worst usage of the fact". I told him " My dear Wattayo what the hell is going with you, why are you crying, what do you want?". " What I want?" he replied in very harsh tone "Do you call it a justice with the Sun? I will sue a petition against all such illiterate scientists". On my earnest request he clarified his philosophy about the eclipse.He said the Sun is a luminous body of the sky. It always emits light and heat where as the moon, earth and other planets in the sky are non-luminous bodies. They do not emit light but reflect the Sunrays. According to his philosophy the lunar eclipse is a Right term because the earth comes in between the Sun and moon. There are two kinds of lunar eclipse one the chronic eclipse and the other one is acute eclipse. We always watch the chronic eclipse. But acute eclipse Happens rarely, to which we call a lunar eclipse. But in case of Sun! That term is a greatest fallacy; actually it is a global eclipse, the eclipse of earth. Because the earth is not receiving Sun Light, now moon stands between Sun & Earth, like as earth comes between them. And this game goes on year by year.We are wrong because we blame on the Sun. this is misusage of words. Still we have not understood the philosophy of eclipse. Although it is very simple but if we want. Other wise this non-sense custom is going on and will be going on... We understand too that, there are two objects, is which one is sender and second is receiver. One is giving you and you are getting. Right now if one comes between you and your giver, the eclipse starts right on that time. Then you can't receive properly that thing which you're getting. I live in Cupertino, California USA. I would like to know what are the eclipse dates in 2011 for me and what are the starting times and ending times of that eclipse. Like any kind of eclipse (lunar, solar etc).
I really need detail info. I just heard the most recent eclipse is on 2nd june.
